Local legend claims wild wolves used to seek refuge on Mount Lycabettus, a tall hill noted for offering unbeatable views of Athens. Tradition has it that Athena, the goddess of wisdom, created this hill when she accidentally dropped a mountain she had intended for the construction of the city's famed citadel. You can access this "hill walked by wolves," as its name roughly translates, by a funicular railway departing from a station in the central part of the city. The hill rises to 277 m (908 ft) above sea level, its peak featuring a 19th century chapel, theater, and restaurant. Pick a sunny day for your visit if possible, and don't forget your camera. The view is amazing from Mount Lycabettus! You can watch Athens in every direction. It's a silent and peaceful park in the center of the city. Definitely one of the best spots in the city for some photography. Here are some shots I took on my way to the summit.
A Stunning landmark in Athens, the church was beautiful and the view from up there was breathtaking. I was lucky enough to go around sunset, which only enhanced my experience. It's a bit of a hike to get up but absolutely worth the trip. Unfortunately it's bound to be rather overcrowded on most days because of how attractive the spot is for tourists.
