You may not know it by its relatively simple appearance, but Tanot Mata Temple played a major role in the 1965 Indo-Pakistan War. The story goes that the Pakistani Army attempted to destroy the structure by dropping a numbers of bomb, but all of them missed and the temple remained unscathed. The Indian Border Security controls the building now and operates it as a museum--step inside to view some of those unexploded bombs dropped by Pakistan. • Good temple and well maintained. Can visit BP 609 from here. Take permission from the office near this temple and head straight to the border. Better to visit the temple on way back.

  • Visited this temple after Lockdown . Dtd 18th November 2020. Temple is open for all devotees as regular time. We was there around 3:00 to 4:00 pm (15:00 to 16:00) • Mask is compulsory. Without mask they will not allow. Our route was from sam desert to longewala to Tanot rai mandir. After Sam desert, we hardly find drinking water and petrol. So i suggest you to take enough drinking water and petrol if you travel their by your own vehicle. Hopefully this will help you. Happy journey..
  • The temple is some 122 kilometres (76 mi) from the City of Jaisalmer, and it takes about two hours to reach by road. The area has a high average windspeed and as a result there are now a large number of wind-based renewable energy projects in the area. The road to Tanot is surrounded with miles and miles of sand dunes and sand mountains. The temperatures in the area can go up to 49 °C and ideal time to visit the place is from November to January.
