A World Heritage Site and the largest Buddhist shrine in the world, Borobudur Temple features nine stacked, six square, and three circular platforms, crowned by an impressive central dome. Erected in the 9th century from over two million stone blocks, this temple features over 2,600 relief panels and more than 500 Buddha statues. The central dome alone contains 72 Buddha figures arranged around a stupa, a mound-like structure designed as a place of prayer and meditation. Begin your tour at the eastern entrance and proceed clockwise, a traditional way to move inside Buddhist monuments. Admission into the shrine also allows you to enter the nearby archeological museum, displaying thousands of photographs and carvings. There a are lots of reviews so I’m focusing on the experience. The temple is well worth a visit, it almost goes without saying. There’s a number of stalls and cafes before the entrance if you... more »
The best temple ever with I’ve seen. But for better experience you need to meet sunrise or sunset. The best think if you meet the sunrise. Exactly ypu need to be able to wake up at 3 am and go to the top of temple and wait for sunrise. However when you see it, you will never forget it
Temple itself is very nice, it really worth the visit, the amusement park created all around is a little annoying. You have only one entrance to the temple and only one exit on the other side. To reach back the parking lot the way is quite long under the sun, you can rent small chariot or jump on a small park train, but we couldn't find it. On your way back, you'll find a gate with Exit sign very big and three one-way rolling door, don't take them unless you want to loose your self in a labyrinth market, just keep walking. You can also rent a very old WV to take pictures with.
