Red Canyon, Eilat

4.7
#3 of 18 in Nature in Southern District
Enjoy a fairly challenging hike through the narrow, picture-perfect red gorge of Red Canyon. Observe the scenic desert foliage and an array of wildlife as you work your way towards the peak. You'll notice that the iconic red sandstone, in some cases millions of years old, changes color subtly throughout the day. You’ll find that, refreshingly, there are no signs of civilization in sight, giving you the feeling that you are wandering in the middle of the wilderness. Be aware that the hike requires you to climb occasionally, and includes narrow spaces only a few meters wide. • This is a red track nature site. Beautiful Short Lane. Gives some rest from the city. The short and circular route is not more than an hour. In the canyon itself is quite pleasant. In short, it's a good place for family or friends.

  • Along the border with Egypt, the road leads from Eilat up into the mountains. In a windy little parking lot in nowhere, the taxi driver dropped us off, told us which signs to follow, and promised to be back 3 hours later. We headed down where a second parking lot and map gave us an idea of where we were. But not from what awaited us. Through a small canyon we went into a large dry river bed, which for the first time showed us a few red rocks, after which the canyon is named. The entrance to the canyon was still quite gentle, but only a few meters later a gorge developed, which finally could only be passed with a few stepping hakes and ladders. Super cool. If one still felt pretty safe here, the way back above the canyon demanded quite a bit of tread safety and dizziness. We didn't expect this so adventurously-it was absolutely great. You could spend many more hours in this barren but fascinating landscape. Definitv a clear recommendation for an Eilat stay.

  • Walking through the red canyon is a fantastic experience. It is not difficult to get through unless you had some kind of mobility problems. I really recommend continuing onto some of the other walks in the area when you get to the end of the canyon, they are just as beautiful!
  • One of the most charming and breath taking area I visited during my stay in Israel. I was there with my family, and my mother was a true hero as some parts of the canyon can certainly called adventurous; there is a bit climbing and hight included.
