  • This was a very beautiful shrine with a beautiful location! There are many shrines in the area but I would definitely recommend making the small hike up the hill to see this one. It has a beautiful view of the city and walking up to it takes you through a very cute Japanese neighborhood. It winds up through a more forested area of the city which is also refreshing.
  • The reward for climbing the hundred or more steps to the Atago Shrine is a panoramic view of the northern coastal area of Fukuoka City. Since the surrounding landscape is quite flat and there are not many distinctive landmarks apart from the iconic Fukuoka Tower to the northeast; the scene is not a spectacular one. There is a building on the right side of the road further up from the parking lot. There is an elevator inside that goes to the top of the hill where the shrine is located.
