Wat Si Saket, Vientiane

#2 of 17 in Historic Sites in Vientiane
Religious Site · Tourist Spot
Thanks to its sturdy Siamese style architecture, Wat Si Saket stands intact and represents one of the oldest temples in the capitol. The Buddhist compound served as headquarters to the armies of Siam during king Anouvong's rebellion in 1827--which resulted in the city's total destruction and the relocation of its denizens. As you explore the temple halls and courtyard, examine the cloister walls both inside and out, which feature over more than 2,000 images of Buddha made of ceramic and silver. The main hall itself keeps a total of 6,480 Buddha images on its walls. Expect crowds at this popular attraction. To find out how to plan a trip to Vientiane, use our trip itinerary maker.
