Trip Planner: Africa / South Africa / Western Cape / Cape Town / Table Mountain National Park / Cape of Good Hope
Take a tour of Cape of Good Hope, a dramatic seaside promontory and part of Table Mountain National Park, known for its scenic landscape and hiking trails. The narrow coastline, discovered in 1488 by Bartholomeu Dias, became famous as the birthplace of the "Flying Dutchman" legend. A bird-watching paradise, the area shelters more than 200 species, including the African penguin, as well as a variety of other creatures like Chacma baboon, fallow deer, whales, and the elusive Cape mountain zebra. For travelers who use our world travel planner, Cape Town holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Cape of Good Hope and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

Amazing place and the scenery getting there next to the ocean is amazing. I would love to go there when there are no coach parties but despite that it is a must do. When you get to the car park you have the option of just doing a picture with the sign saying it is the most southerly land mass before Antarctica (not true ) or you can climb up the nearby hill to get a feel for the place. Do climb if you can, it's worth it. We were there on a windy day but being up there was very exciting with great views up the coast.
The blue waves rushing and crashing against the seaweed-covered rocks was incredibly scenic. Going here made me think about all of the people who have ever voyage nearby via ship for the past hundreds of years, although there is no sign of that history where I parked and took some photos. I saw a couple of ostriches and a family of baboons nearby, which was was quite fun.
