The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Ryoanji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (in Osaka) and Dotombori District (in Dotombori). The adventure continues: take a stroll through Gion, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tofuku-ji Temple, and steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone difference when traveling from Singapore to Kyoto is 1 hour. Plan for cooler temperatures traveling from Singapore in December, with highs in Kyoto at 13°C and lows at 4°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Tokyo.
