The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Kiyomizu-dera Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Nijo Castle and Ryoanji Temple will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (in Osaka) and Dotombori District (in Dotombori). The adventure continues: take a stroll through Gion, contemplate the long history of Tofuku-ji Temple, don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Sanjusangendo Temple.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Kyoto due to the time zone difference. Expect colder temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Kyoto reach 13°C and lows reach 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Wed) so you can take a train to Tokyo.

Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Get some historical perspective at Senso-ji Temple and Imperial Palace. Satisfy your inner culture vulture at Ginza and Edo-Tokyo Museum. When in Tokyo, make a side trip to see Tokyo Disneyland in Maihama, approximately Maihama away. Next up on the itinerary: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, admire the masterpieces at Tokyo National Museum, wander the streets of Akihabara, and get your game on at Owl Cafe Akiba Fukurou.

Getting from Kyoto to Tokyo by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. In December, daily temperatures in Tokyo can reach 14°C, while at night they dip to 4°C. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 17th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly back home.
