Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Apartheid Museum and South African National Museum of Military History. Popular historic sites such as Constitution Hill and Mandela House are in your itinerary. Explore Johannesburg's surroundings by going to Union Buildings (in Pretoria), Wild Cave Adventures (in Krugersdorp) and Montecasino (in Sandton). There's still lots to do: wander the streets of Maboneng Precinct, take in panoramic vistas at Top of Africa, and examine the collection at Lindfield Victorian House Museum.
