With its history proudly stemming from the Scottish settlers who came here during the colonial era, Dunedin's streets are lined with well-preserved examples of Victorian and Edwardian architecture, while a new culture of nightlife and fine dining takes hold around them.
Start off your visit on the 15th (Tue): pause for some serene contemplation at St. Paul's Cathedral, steep yourself in history at Olveston Historic Home, learn more about the world around you at Otago Museum, then make a trip to The World's Steepest Street, and finally take in nature's colorful creations at Dunedin Botanic Garden. Here are some ideas for day two: trek along Tunnel Beach Track, then look for all kinds of wild species at Penguin Place, then revel in the low prices at Happy Hens, and finally take in the architecture and atmosphere at First Church of Otago.
