Nestled in the arid valley of Little Karoo, the town of Oudtshoorn remains the hub of everything ostrich-related, housing the world's largest population of the flightless birds.
Step out of the city life by going to Safari Ostrich Show Farm and Cango Ostrich Show Farm. Step off the beaten path and head to Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort Waterfall. Get out of town with these interesting Oudtshoorn side-trips: Calitzdorp (Boplaas, Peter Bayly Wines, & more) and Meiringspoort (in De Rust). There's still lots to do: relax in the rural setting at Highgate Ostrich Show Farm, Head underground at The Cango Caves, and stop by La Chocolaterie Rococo.
