Historians often describe Xi'an, capital city for over a dozen dynasties, as the birthplace of Chinese civilization.

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
Get a sense of the local culture at The Bund (Wai Tan) and Zhujiajiao Ancient Town. Former French Concession and Tian Zi Fang will appeal to history buffs. Located on the south bank of the Yangtze River, Nanjing was the capital city of numerous dynasties over the ages.
Slender West Lake and The Memorial of the Nanjing Massacre will appeal to history buffs. Do some cultural sightseeing at Sun Yatsen Mausoleum (Zhongshan Ling) and Nanjing City Wall (Ming City Wall). Step out of Nanjing to go to Yangzhou and see Daming Temple, which is approximately 1h 25 min away.
