Once a bustling city in southern Myanmar, the market town of Bago mostly draws visitors on day trips from Yangon, coming to see the relics and historic monuments from its heyday.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Thu): appreciate the history behind Kyaik Pun Pagoda, take in the spiritual surroundings of Mya Tha Lyaung Reclining Buddha, take in the spiritual surroundings of Shwethalyaung Buddha, then make a trip to Mahazedi Pagoda, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Shwe Gulay Pagoda. Although Myanmar moved its capital to Naypyidaw in 2005, Yangon remains the largest city and commercial hub in the country.
Your day-by-day itinerary now includes Htwe Oo Myanmar Puppet Theater as well as Sule Pagoda. Go for a jaunt from Yangon (Rangoon) to Pabedan to see Bogyoke Aung San Market about 40 minutes away.
