Also known as Pamban Bridge, Annai Indira Gandhi Road Bridge was India's first sea bridge, built in the early 1900s with a double-leaf bascule section that raises to allow passage of ships. The bridge connects the town of Rameswaram on Pamban Island to mainland India and consists of both a road bridge and a railway bridge. You can walk and jog across the bridge, or you can catch a train instead for the opportunity to take fantastic photos of the bridge contrasting against the blue sea. • The road bridge gives you an excellent view of the surroundings (sea, island, rail bridge et al) as you drive through it from the mainland to the island, or vice versa.

  • Historical landmark. This pamban bridge is the main land connection to Rameswaram otherwise Rameswaram is island. Pamban Bridge is opened by Rajiv Gandhi in 1988. It took almost 14 years to complete the 2.4 km long bridge. Before this only railway bridge was there to connect Rameswaram which was opened in 1914. Now there is new railway bridge construction is going on.
  • Visited the bridge for the first time in my life and it's worth visiting the historical bridge. The bridge is so long and well maintained. The sea water underneath the bridge are clean without any littering. The water colour looked greenish. This is a must visit place at least once in the lifetime. It was really scary to feel the vibration of moving vehicles on the bridge
