Perched on Fukusaki Hill in the downtown area, Fukuoka Castle Ruins offers a scenic walk in wooded Maizuru Park, with the Naka River forming a natural moat. Once the largest castle in Kyushu, spanning 47,000 sq m (505,900 sq ft) and featuring 47 turrets, this early Edo-period complex was completely torn down during the Meiji restoration, as it symbolize the unwanted feudal past. Only ruined walls, some turrets, and a few restored gates remind visitors of its past magnificence. Visit the small museum documenting the history of the castle, whose remains can be reached by foot from Ohori Koen station. • The best bit was the Main Gate, because after that there wasn't much we could find and there were three of us. We subsequently discovered that there isn't much left. In other words - don't bother

  • Beautiful & large park. We went to enjoy the autumn leaves. It was so beautiful. People are enjoying a lot. Amazing place to enjoy the autumn. Parking & washroom available.
  • What a beautiful place to watch a sunset in Fukuoka. I recommend these Castle ruins to families with children because there’s an awesome children’s park right below it.
