Create an itinerary including Tham Phu Kham Cave and Blue Lagoon
Take a dip in a small emerald-colored river, or explore an ancient cave at Tham Phu Kham Cave and Blue Lagoon, an improvised eco-water park in a scenic village close to Vang Vieng. Observe sharp stalactites and stalagmites as you descend down steep walls to reach the largest hall of the cave, which contains a gilt bronze statue of a reclining Buddha, with several other smaller Buddha images revered by locals. The green-blue waters of the lagoon outside the cave provide a good relaxation spot, as well as the opportunity to jump off a tree into the water. You can also try your hand at abseiling or hurtle down one of the water slides throughout the day. Before you visit Vang Vieng, use our trip planner to discover what you can do and see there.

  • Well done Judocarli! That’s the way to raise intrepid kids! We followed your advice and hired the head torches from the stall at the foot of the steep scramble “path” to the cave entrance. Very...

  • Blue lagoon 1 is a great spot. Yes it is developed and ‘touristy’, but I don’t think that matters. The lagoon itself is fairly small but caters for those who can and can’t swim, with life jackets and tubes, swings and diving platforms. It’s quite fun. The hike up to the cave is steep but not too difficult if you have 2 functioning legs. The cave is beautiful and if you rent a torch you can go a long way in and easily consume an hour exploring the nooks and crannies. The ziplining is great value and safely managed. I did it with my 7 year old daughter and she had a great time. The food is pretty good and reasonably priced. It’s easy to spend an entire day here just doing all the activities and having fun. Would recommend!
  • A beautiful place to spend your half day here. I recommend to visit here at noon because of cool water😅. Enjoy your lunch, swimming and jumping for few hours so it’s too close from the city. For me, I got there by motorcycle just 3-5 km from the city but the road was not good. Don’t forget to wear a mask to protect you from the dust.
