The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Gion are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Nijo Castle will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Dotombori District (in Dotombori) and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (in Osaka). The adventure continues: take in the spiritual surroundings of Kinkaku-ji and contemplate the long history of Heian Shrine.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. The time zone changes from Singapore Standard Time to Japan Standard Time, which is usually a 1 hour difference. Expect cooler temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Kyoto reach 13°C and lows reach 4°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 13th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight to Tokyo.
