The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Nijo Castle are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Kiyomizu-dera Temple and Sanjusangendo Temple will appeal to history buffs. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Dotombori District (in Dotombori) and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan (in Osaka). The adventure continues: take a stroll through Gion, contemplate the long history of Tofuku-ji Temple, don't miss a visit to Heian Shrine, and contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple.

Singapore, Singapore to Kyoto is an approximately 10-hour flight. You can also do a combination of car and ferry. You'll lose 1 hour traveling from Singapore to Kyoto due to the time zone difference. Expect colder temperatures when traveling from Singapore in December; daily highs in Kyoto reach 13°C and lows reach 4°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Wed) so you can fly to Tokyo.

Have a day of magic on the 15th (Fri) at Tokyo Disneyland. You can fly from Kyoto to Tokyo in 3 hours. Other options are to take a train; or drive. In December in Tokyo, expect temperatures between 14°C during the day and 4°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 17th (Sun) to allow enough time to fly back home.
