Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Get some cultural insight at Apartheid Museum and Constitution Hill Human Rights Precinct. Get some historical perspective at Mandela House and Union Buildings. When in Johannesburg, make a side trip to see Wild Cave Adventures in Krugersdorp, approximately Krugersdorp away. There's lots more to do: try to win big at Montecasino, learn about all things military at South African National Museum of Military History, and stop by Maboneng Precinct.
