Johannesburg — 2 nights

Founded when gold was discovered in the area in the late 19th century, Johannesburg quickly grew into a bustling metropolis, South Africa's largest city and the region's economic hub.
Get out of town with these interesting Johannesburg side-trips: Lion and Safari Park (in Broederstroom) and Ukutula Conservation Center (in Brits). There's still lots to do: see the interesting displays at Apartheid Museum, get some fabulous bargains at The Diamond Ring By GC Manufacturing Jewellery, wander the streets of Maboneng Precinct, and look for gifts at Mambu Design.
