Dalian — 2 nights

The large city of Dalian gets its history from its seaport, its modernity from its industry, and its visitors from the fact it largely keeps these things from view.
Start off your visit on the 9th (Sun): walk around Dalian Zhongshan Square and then stroll around Laohutan Scenic Park. Here are some ideas for day two: pause for some serene contemplation at Dalian Catholic church, then admire nature's wide array of creatures at Dalian Forest Zoo, then make a trip to Xinghai Square, and finally admire the local landmark of Dalian Donggang Music Fountain.

Hong Kong to Dalian is an approximately 6-hour flight. You can also take a train; or drive. In October, Dalian is much colder than Hong Kong - with highs of 21°C and lows of 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 11th (Tue) so you can fly to Beijing.

As the political and cultural capital of China, Beijing stands at the heart of Chinese history, buzzing with the energy of its high population density and centuries of importance.

With a nickname like the "Pearl of the Orient," it's not surprising Shanghai offers some of the most rewarding attractions and activities in the Far East.
On the 12th (Wed), see the interesting displays at Shanghai Museum (Shanghai Bowuguan), then take in the pleasant sights at The Bund (Wai Tan), then take in panoramic vistas at Shanghai World Financial Center, and finally take in panoramic vistas at Oriental Pearl Tower (Dongfang Mingzhu).

Traveling by flight from Beijing to Shanghai takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive. Prepare for somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Beijing in October: high temperatures in Shanghai hover around 28°C and lows are around 19°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 13th (Thu) so you can catch the flight to Guangzhou.

A massive metropolis and critical international trading hub, Guangzhou sprawls along the Pearl River, distinctly vibrant and cosmopolitan.
Kick off your visit on the 13th (Thu): snap pictures at Liede Bridge, then don't miss a visit to Canton Tower, and then head off the coast to Shamian Island.

Shenzhen

A fairly humble collection of farming and fishing villages and towns until 1979, you wouldn't guess as much when taking a tour of Shenzhen.
Start off your visit on the 14th (Fri): find something for the whole family at Shenzhen Window of the World and then find something for the whole family at China Folk Culture Village.
